Trout river permits available to visitors of Pitlochry Angling Club.

The trout fishing season is from 15 March to October 6. After cold winters is is usually mid April before fly life is abundant and from then until closing the River Tummel is a "Blue Ribband" trout river that offers exceptional dry fly fishing, not always easy but greatly satisfying and some magnificent trout up to 60cm in length for the skilled and lucky angler. Enjoy this river and please help to conserve its fantastic trout fishing by releasing specimen fish.

Annual Permits for the River Tummel between Pitlochry and Ballinluig are available to visitors from March 15 each year until March 14 the following year or alternatively from October 7 until October 6 the following year.

Season Permits are available for the Upper River Tummel between Clunie Dam and the Linn of Tummel for trout fishing only from March 15 to October 6 each year.

Trout Fishing River Tummel

The River Tummel, in Perthshire by Pitlochry, is one of the main tributaries of the River Tay, and one of the finest brown trout and grayling waters in Scotland. The Pitlochry Angling Club water has been a recent venue for National, International and World fly-fishing events. The trout and grayling permit water, available from Pitlochry Angling Club, covers both banks for about 5km of its length, starting at the footbridge below Pitlochry Dam, on the east bank and below the Fonab Caravan Park, on the west bank. The downstream limit is a short distance above the road bridge at Ballinluig. Be aware that the Tummel is also very popular for salmon (and occasional sea trout) fishing and remember to give way to salmon anglers who wish to fish the pools. More . . .

Trout fishing Upper River Tummel

The Upper Tummel is a torrential river, flowing from Clunie Dam on Loch Tummel to Loch Faskally above Pitlochry, through spectacular mountain scenery. Tickets for this water cover both banks for about 3km from the dam down to the Falls of Tummel. Access is fairly difficult due to the hilly and mixed wooded terrain, but the fishing can be very rewarding for anglers who are active enough to get to know and to love this lightly fished water. It holds a lot of small, free-rising, beautifully marked, brown trout of 25 to 30cm and occasional much larger ones that seldom come to the fly.  More . . .
